There exist certain mysterious and apocryphal lays which speak of the fate of Tyr’s right hand after he lost it in the binding of the Fenris wolf with Gleipnir. These lays say that the might of Tyr stayed in the hand though it was separate from Tyr’s body and that Fenris could not stomach it. Even though it was the hand of oath and had been given to Fenris in faith which was broken, it was given up for a greater cause and so worried Fenris like a stone in his gut.
Because of its tarnished but noble nature, the hand slowly turned, not to gold, but to bronze in Fenris’s gut: a much more practical and useful metal of the sun than gold. At Ragnarok, Fenris will finally break his bonds and kill Odin. Vidar (god of silence and revenge), Odin’s son by the giantess Gridr, will tear Fenris apart with his bare hands in revenge. The bronze fist of Tyr will fall out. Vidar will hurl it into the heavens in triumph where it will become a new sun in the sky of the idyllic world to come after.
